What to see in Granada
The Alhambra is the main reason for the trip: the Nasrid Palaces, the Alcazaba and the Generalife gardens. Entry to the palaces is at a fixed time, so plan your day around it.
Opposite, the Albaicín, a UNESCO-listed quarter of Moorish origin, is explored by climbing cobbled streets up to the San Nicolás viewpoint. Higher up, the Sacromonte is famous for its caves and flamenco. In the centre are the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel, resting place of the Catholic Monarchs.
When to go
Spring and autumn are perfect. In winter you can combine the city with the snow of Sierra Nevada; in summer, visit early and at sunset.
Getting around
The centre is walkable and minibuses climb to the Albaicín, the Sacromonte and the Alhambra. The train station links with Madrid, Seville and Málaga.
What to eat
Make the most of the free tapa tradition, try broad beans with ham, the Sacromonte omelette and the piononos pastries from Santa Fe. The tea houses of the Albaicín are perfect for a break.
